Project WAGGL for CityCo, Manchester
Jan 2019 – Feb 2019
This challenge was given to us during the Design Thinking Module at Hyper Island. The Brief was from CityCo, (The Manchester City Centre Management Company), and contained “How can we design a support tool for a Manchester night out? Something that would help a person engage with the city in a safe and enjoyable way.“ We were a group of 5 people with different work background that had 3 weeks to find a solution to the problem.
An app called WAGGL, that helps people navigate through the city safely. As if they were with a local!
So you might ask, Why WAGGL and what’s up with the name? Well we were inspired by the bees. Honey bees show other bees the way to food by waggle dance – and lead their fellow species to the new food source safely. This is what our app should do for users. And of course – Manchester and its bees – a little reference to the city.
We want to give people the chance to become a local everywhere
Waggl not only shows safer routes but points of interest that non-locals might miss
Routes are reviewed and rated by locals and visitors
Make it your own
Centered around a single city, Waggl is a more personal solution to navigation
